Frisco City Council will vote on Toyota Stadium renovations Tuesday

A plan in excess of $100 million to renovate Toyota Stadium, home to FC Dallas, will be voted on at Tuesday’s Frisco City Council meeting, city and team officials said Friday.
If approved, it will mark the first step toward refurbishing FC Dallas’ home, with construction slated to begin in January, according to past filings.
The council’s upcoming agenda wasn’t yet publicly posted as of 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.
In May, The Dallas Morning News reported that the MLS team filed a request with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to renovate the venue that opened in 2005.

“Toyota Stadium has been a special place where FC Dallas fans, college and high school football diehards, Frisco ISD students, and music lovers have experienced incredible moments and created lifelong memories,” said Gina Miller, FC Dallas Vice President of Broadcasting Communication and Media, in a statement.
The 20,500 FCD home was the third MLS soccer-specific stadium to be built, costing approximately $80 million. Clark and Dan Hunt own the MLS franchise and its stadium.
Toyota Stadium also hosts concerts and other major sporting events, including the Frisco Bowl and FCS championship game.
“When it opened in 2005, Toyota Stadium helped usher in an era of soccer-specific stadiums in the United States and created a home for Frisco ISD athletics and events,” Miller said.
The plan filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation includes expanding premium suites and club areas, setting a new broadcast and press working space to meet MLS guidelines, and incorporating sports lighting into a new canopy system.
While details in the state filing are limited, it showed an estimated construction cost of $130 million for the work that counts Dallas architect HKS Inc. as its design firm.
“The City of Frisco greatly values our partnership with Hunt Sports Group, namely FC Dallas and Toyota Stadium,” said Wes Pierson, City Manager, in a written statement.
“The partnership is invaluable and the venue is integral to our city’s brand, history and success story. However, it would be premature to comment further at this time.”
According to the plan filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, construction on the renovations will begin in January and be completed in August 2027.
“It is now time to invest in Toyota Stadium to ensure that this venue, which is approaching 20 years old, continues to deliver a world-class experience for our fans, community, players and staff,” Miller said.
The stadium underwent $39 million in renovations a little over five years ago.
